Hirsch: People Relate to Wanderlust

Emile HirschEmile Hirsch says a lot of people can relate to his "Into the Wild" character's sense of wanderlust.

He and director Sean Penn attended a Rome Film Festival screening Wednesday of Penn's adaptation of the best-selling book about Christopher McCandless whose restless wanderings left him starved to death in Alaska at 24.

"Everybody wants to go on the adventure of a lifetime. Everybody wants to step outside their comfort zone if they get an opportunity to," the 22-year-old Hirsch told a news conference.

Penn agreed but "not to the point of recommending some kind of reckless self-endangerment, but certainly to the point of making your heart beat a little faster."

Penn, 47, kept his sunglasses on the entire time.

"You have to forgive me, I drank too much of Rome's red wine last night," he said.
